Coming in late but OMG I was surprised with how much I enjoyed The Housemaid. It's SO trashy and ridiculous but I literally read it in less than a day and jumped right into the sequel AND a couple more of Freida McFadden's other works. It's such a digestible and light read for a thriller (maybe domestic thrillers are made that way?). I wouldn't call it good literature but had a lot of fun reading it.

I actually like the HERO LOSSES THEIR POWER trope but wen I tell you that I HATED the orphanage/powerless/st*pid ending of a certain book that I USED TO LOVE WITH ALL OF MY HEART. Sometimes I get passed it and sometimes I just rage.

I read a book with a love triangle (one of the two was brother's best friend) where the main character gets into an accident then she gets amnesia and then loses her unborn child she didn't know she was pregnant with and it was the worst book I've ever read

I'm sorry, but I can't help but judge people for liking this book. It's filled with so much disgusting material, shitty lessons, and excuses for abuse that someone who enjoys reading this is either too young to understand the implications or is an adult that sees family gatherings as a Tinder alternative. I feel sick remembering just half of the disturbing dialogue from Jake, let alone thinking of Kaleb's actions. Eugh...

lexi, i’m sorry for the real life/mental stuff you are going through; you talking about how difficult it is to do something you love, and then feeling guilty about it, is so real and something i also feel on and off. but just so you know, after watching a few of your videos a month ago, you have helped me gain to courage to pick up a book again after yearssss. i’m on book five, and i feel like a part of me is whole again. so thank you for that, and i hope the later half of the year treats you well. ❤️

I totally understand people enjoying smut and wanting to explore taboo topics in a safe environment (like a book or a movie), but I can't imagine anyone unironically defending this. Even if the smut is good (which I assume it very much isn't), having it all wrapped up in a very disturbing fantasy like this should completely kill any notions people would have of liking the book. This is one of those things were I can see some of the intent of the author and why some people would like it, but the way the book portrays Tiernan shows how absolutely gross it the book is on the inside. Forbidden love, losing one's innocence, polygamy, winning over someone's heart over time, etc. are all topics that can make very really good and really engaging books, even outside of smut. Buttttt, the continued gaslighting and berating of Tiernan by the narrative is essentially just the author writing a weak strawman with the intent of violently tearing it down over time., implicitly stating that people who disagree with Tiernan's journey are simply just innocent and need to be corrected like Tiernan. The fetishization of Tiernan's age, the constant focus of "we're relatives, but like omg not really so it's totes okay," the ludicrous defense of a violent abuser because he's hot. This whole thing reads as the author writing a self-insert fantasy because of a crush she had on a cousin/uncle when she was young, while also saying she's sooo hot and soooo good in bed that she can turn a literal silent monster into a functional person.

We often miss the small details authors include when we read too much and too fast. We think we understand, but sometimes we don't. After reading a book, we analyze it and ask ourselves questions. This is a common practice in the research industry. Why does Violet style her hair like a crown? Why are the ends of her hair silver? What is her second signet, as the author hinted it would be revealed in the second book? Why does her brother have a rune on his hand? What is the purpose of the runes? Why do the Venin have runes on their backs? Why did Xaden's mother leave him, and where is she? Why does Xaden want Violet to know how to ask the right questions? Why did Andarna wait 650 years to hatch? What makes her so special, and what did she see in Violet? Why are her scales changing colors? Is this related to Violet's eyes? What do the Sages want from Xaden and Violet, considering both of them have dreams about the Sages? Why did Jack save Violet even though we know he wanted to kill her? Violet mentioned that he doesn't know she owes him two lives. What if he does know? Why did he come back, and did he make a deal with the Sages?At the end, Xaden said to Violet,I'm going to buy you time. They're still waiting for their leader and me. Why? Finally, we ask ourselves what Xaden or Violet could do to improve their characters. Would you stay with a person who doesn't want full disclosure?

May I highly highly recommend Mrs. Nash’s Ashes. An excellent debut novel and incredible, fun, yet deep romance

As someone who has been an avid reader since I could read, I do think (for reasons I won't get into now) people are being waaaayyyyyyyy too overdramatic when they wail that "booktok is destroying reading" (when an emo theater kid is telling you that you're being overdramatic, *you're being overdramatic*). I agree (mostly) with what KrimsonRouge said: "Quite frankly, as long as you're reading, you're doing something right and I don't care". But HOLY FUCK some of the stuff that gets popular there makes me even more scared for humanity than I already am.

I had to watch this in too sittings because I could feel my brain rotting from the absolute absurdity of the book
